Glories of Dipa-Dana
A person who kindles an akhanda-dipa before Lord Hari will leave for the Lord’s abode on a effulgent vehicle and live there in bliss. (Padma Purana, dialogue between Shri Krishna and Satyabhama)
Between the offering of all existing wealth and the offering of a depa during Kartika there is no comparison – in fact, the latter is certainly more precious. (123) (Naradiya Purana, dialogue between Rukmangada and Mohini)
Even a person addicted to all sins and averse to all pious deeds who somehow offers a lamp during Kartika becomes purified. Of this there is no doubt. (Hari Bhakti Vilasa – Text 112)
It is further said: “By offering a lamp during the month of Kartika one burns away a collection of sins as big as Mount Meru or Mount Mandara. Of this there is no 'doubt'. (Hari Bhakti Vilasa – Text 108)
